The Tobe Novus Monosuit – Snow Suits For The Winter

I recently wrote a post about our children’s outdoor clothing.  I covered what we looked for in rain and winter outdoor gear.  I briefly mentioned our trio have snow suits too, but didn’t discuss them.  So in this post I want to talk about what we look for in our children’s snowsuits.  Our three are using the Tobe Novus Monosuits in various colours and sizes.  In the winter months the snow suit ALWAYS goes to school.  If I sent them in with their 2 piece sets, you can bet that the mini men would try and avoid using the trousers.  With the Tobe suit they have no choice!!  We also love the suits for ease of just putting them on over anything and everything, with just one zip to do up.  Much easier for very busy little people, keen and eager to get out to play.

Tobe Novus Monosuit Facts:

  1. It is resistant to tears, scuffs, and abrasions:  Very handy when you have three tree climbing addicts, who also love sliding on rocks, and generally fall over and tumble around too.  I buy big, so I know they will last, making it good value for money.
  2. It has Thinsulate insulation:  Light enough to not make the poor child so bulky they can’t play, but effective enough they keep warm outdoors during the long Swedish winter.
  3. 45000mm waterproofing:  This is an astonishing amount!!  One of my main gripes about children’s outdoor gear is it just doesn’t keep water out.  Eventually it gets in via places such as knees and bums which is what they use to lean on the most.  They also wade into the sea a lot (when it is not frozen) even in their winter play.  This fabric is so waterproof, the water just runs off them.
  4. 100% windproof:  We might get away with warmer temperatures here in the south than the north of Sweden, but the wind can be biting and painful, bringing temperatures down to feel even colder.  The windproofing of the Tobe suit makes sure the wind can’t make the children feel the wind chill factor.
  5. Breathability:  Little people do get warm running around even in the freezing winter.  So the breathability factor makes sure they don’t get wet from the inside out with their exertions!!
  6. You can wash the Tobe suit as often as you want.  Very often the effectiveness of outdoor gear is reduced with washing, but the Sympatex membrane does not get damaged or lose its waterproofing with detergents.  You can also tumble dry it on a low heat.  Very mum friendly clothing!!

What Else We Like About the Tobe Novus Monosuit:

  1. It is fleece lined:  Super soft and comfy.
  2. It has reinforced trouser cuffs:  This is always a weak point on my children’s outdoor clothing and it ends up getting frayed, compromising its functionality.  This looks like it will last the challenge.
  3. Boot skirts:  Vital to stop the snow, mud, water, or whatever else they challenge it with getting up inside the suit.
  4. Under the boot straps:  These look very tough and durable, helping the trouser legs stay down over the boots, and ensuring the outdoor mess and elements stay on the outside.
  5. Reinforced knees: Again this is often a weak point on clothing, so these toughened knees will prolong the garments usability.
  6. Reflective strips:  Vital for the long dark winter and the visibility of the children to the traffic.
  7. Lots of pockets:  To put all those “important things” in that get collected during an outdoor play session.
  8. Cosy cuffs that are adjustable:  This makes them comfortable but practical in keeping the snow and wet stuff out.
  9. There is an extra zip in the neck of the suit to increase space in that area.  For instance if you are wearing neck warmers or multiple layers.  Or even in need of a little ventilation!
  10. A detachable hood:  We always leave ours on (less risk of losing them!), but it gives you more options.

Now all we need is the snow!!  It is cold enough now and my trio are in their suits at school.  I also won’t be losing twin 2 anytime soon in his chosen colour of bright orange!! Would you consider all in one suits for the winter weather?  Let me know your thoughts in the comments below 🙂

They are amazing. They can clamber, play, and generally do whatever they want in the outdoors being totally protected from the elements. Mine spend 6 months of the year in them here in Sweden!

  3. These look awesome. It’s nice to know there is this product for kids. I saved it so I can go back to it for when we make trips to colder places. These would be very helpful. Love that you can wash then over and over again and it won’t lose effectiveness or deteriorate. That’s a huge plus for us moms.
